Aug. 08, 1974 - New Telephone Cable From Tel Aviv To Rome: A new submarine telephone cable, being laid from Tel Aviv to Rome, will permit 15 times more telephone and telex calls between Israel and Europe, with a capacity of 1, 840 simultaneous calls. An international firm was set up for laying the new cable, with Israel holding 50% of the stock and France and Italy 25% each! The existing submarined cable to Marseilles was laid six years ago and is capable of accomodating 128 calls simultaneously.
