Aug. 08, 1974 - New Telephone Cable From Tel Aviv To Rome: A new submarine telephone cable, being laid from Tel Aviv to Rome, will permit 15 times more telephone and telex calls between Israel and Europe, with a capacity of 1, 840 simultaneous calls. An international firm was set up for laying the new cable, with Israel holding 50% of the stock and France and Italy 25% each! The existing submarined cable to Marseilles was laid six years ago and is capable of accomodating 128 calls simultaneously. Israel's share in the costs of the new cable IL. 165m has been financed by Britain - manufacturer of the cable, as long term loan
