The installation of Mr. Elias Sarkis as President of Lebanon looks like turning into a source of further political division. Two of the most prominent Muslim leaders, Mr. Kamal Jumblatt, of the overall leftist alliance, and Mr. Rashid Karami, the Prime Minister, have already declared their intention of boycotting the ceremony if it is held in the presence of Syrian troops in the Lebanese village of Chtaura, in Syrian-held territory.
