Jan. 01, 1978 - PLO Chief is shot dead by Arab in Mayfair: Said Hammami, London representative of the Palestinian Liberation Organization for seven years was shot dead by a man believed to be an Arab in his Mayfair basement office yesterday. Aged about 24, the killer was armed with an automatic pistol, fired three shots into the head and body of Mr. Hammumi, who was alone in his office in Green Street, off Oxford Street. The killer run out and vanished into the crowds of Oxfords St. shoppers. Mr. Hammami was married with two young children.
