1968 - Rome, April 1968 = Italian Communist Leader Luigi Longo revealed that he and Kurt George Kiessinger, the Christian Democratic chancellor of West Germany, had discussed German and European problems in Rome. At the same time Longo denied that on talks with Kiessinger's coalition partners, the West German Social Democrats, the Italian Communists had been asked to mediate between Bonn and the East German Communist regime.
