Jack Charlton
Nov. 11, 1966 - Jack Carlton in his New Menswear Shop.: England centre half Jack Charlton is used to sizing up the opposition on the football field, but now Jack has taken on a new role - sizing up the customers in his new menswear shop in Garforth, Leeds. In an immaculately tailored dark jacket, Jack is getting down to the business of being a salesman - and making a first class job of it. Said Jack: the first thing you have to learn in this job is tact. The customer is always right. That's a far cry from football where you have to go out onto the field convinced that you are right and if anybody is going to make any mistakes it will be the other fellow. Jack's footballing commitments have kept him busy since the shop opened two weeks ago, but he is now hoping to spend a lot more time there getting to know his customers. I want to give a real personal service, said Jack, so that customers will really feel they know me. He needn't worry. There's a hardly anyone in Britain after the World Cup who doesn't.
