James Earl Ray, assassin of Martin Luther King Jr
Jan. 1, 1968 - Washington, DC, USA - After being placed twice on the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list JAMES EARL RAY was convicted of the assassination of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. which occurred on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. The assassination led to a nationwide wave of riots in more than 60 cities. Five days later, President Lyndon B. Johnson declared a national day of mourning for the lost civil rights leader.
