James Woodford and assistants with sculptures for Kew
Aug. 08, 1956 - Replicas of the Queen's Beasts in Portland stone are expected to be erected at the end of this month on the terrace of the Palm House at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew. They are now nearing completion at a studio in Sutton. This has been made possible through the generosity of a private donor, who wishes to remain anonymous. The Queen's Beasts, which decorated the facade of the Coronation Annexe of Westminster Abbey, are taken from heraldic devices used by her Majesty's ancestors. The figures used for the Coronation decorations were each 6ft high.
