Feb. 02, 1956 - Korean Vice President: John Myung Chang, Vice President of the Republic of Korea, and leader of the Democratic party which opposes President Sunghwan Rhee. Elected in 1956 after a campaign in which the party's presidential candidate died, there has already been one attempt on Chang's life in fear of assasination. Born in Seoul and returned to Korea in 1925. He is a devoult Catholic there are half a million in Korea and one of his daughters is a nun, another son is studying for the priesthood. A brother is professor of Engineering at the Catholic University of Washington. Chang was Korea's first Ambassador to Washington, and has represented his country thrice in the United Nations. He became Prime Minister to Synghman Thee after returning to Korea in 1950, until he resigned in 1952 to become a leader of the Democratic Party which is the Opposition. He is thus entitled as Vice as Vice President to hold the posts of President of the Senate and Chief Judge of the court of impeachment, but Rhee has abolished these two bodies
