Feb. 25 Okinawa Hostesses Celebrate Prostitutes Day of Liberty. Some hundreds night club hostesses of the gay quarter of Shuri, Okinawa parade through the streets of the town to celebrate the one day of freedom granted prostitutes by the brothel owners in the old days. Years ago girls were sold to the red light houses of the play town but were not allowed to go out except for one day only each year on the first day of spring. On that day the prostitutes donned their best kimonos and paraded through the town playing Samisens, and riding hobby horses to let their parents see that they were doing well.
