Feb. 25 Japan builds Ocean prospector: The world's largest Ocean Prospector has been built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industry for ODECO International of New Orleans, U.S.A. This ocean prospector has an engine room and drilling deck supported by 16 columns, and 4 lower hulls, two pf which are torpedo shaped. The structure weighs 8, 000 tons, is 104 meters long, 80 meters wide, and 38 meters high. It is also equipped with a 2, 800 h.p. engine with two Propellers giving it a speed of 6 knots. The Ocean Prospector will be used to exploit oil fields at a depth of 200 meters off the Southeast Asian coasts
