Jul. 07, 1960 - Japanese girl swimmer beats world record (her own) in Tokio: Miss Sakato Tanaka, broke the world's record by clocking 2 mins. 33.3 secs, in the women's 200 meters backstroke event, during the finals of the Japanese National Swimming Championships, held in Tokio, where selection committee were picking Japanese swimmers for the Rome Olympics.
