Dec. 12, 1967 - Demolition in Imperial Hotel: After they began their demolition on the Imperial Hotel's old building, designed by the late American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, began in peeling the bronze roof tiles off the south wing of the building.The old Imperial was built in 1922 and one of the few buildings to survive the Great Earthquake in 1923. Management plans to complete the demolition before January 15 and to build a new 17-story hotel building in time for Expo 70. As a result of the Save the Imperial Campaigne, at least the main lobby section may be moved to a new location for reconstruction.
