Nov. 11, 1959 - Beauty Queen who lifted her way back to health.. Mrs. Jean Leamey a 26 year old Liverpool housewife - and mother of a four year old son - has won the highest award of the British weight lifting association - in spite of the fact that four years ago she suffered so badly from asthma - that she had to climb the stairs at home - on all fours.. Then a friend suggested that she tried weight-lifting to get her health back. This she not only succeeded in doing - but has got right to the top - in her particular art.. Now, no weight is too much for her physically and mentally. Mrs. Leamy hold a number of titles including Miss. Northwest Britain; Miss Lancashire; Miss England contest. her husband is an insurance agent - and her four year old son Michael is an enthusiast too - he can lift 20 lbs - with ease
