1953 - Ex-Typist Will Be Eyes Of The World On Coronation Day: Millions of people all over the English-speaking world will see Queen Elizabeth II leave Buckingham Palace in the State Coach for her crowning at Westminster Abbey through the eyes of Jean Metcalfe, British Broadcasting Corporation commentator who will be stationed in a room inside the Palace. Jean started with the BBC in 1940 as a typist, and worked up to announcing in under a year. This will be her first job outside the Studio.
