Sep. 09, 1977 - 20th anniversary of death of Jean Sibelius: In this year it is 20th anniversary of Jean Sibelius death - the famous Finnish composer died on September 20th, 1957 in Jarvenpaa near Helsinki. Sibelius studied n Germany and Austria and after his time of education 1893 he was teacher for theory at the conservatoire in Helsinki. His artistic activity has its roots in the Finnish national character and gets its deepest impression from the intimate meeting with the landscape of his home. Very characteristically for the individuality of his music - a strong impulse for his works got the composer from the Finnish epic Kalevala - are his symphonic poems and Symphonies. Works: 7 Symphonies; symphonic poems (e.g. Finlandia); Violin concerto in D minor; chamber music; Men's choirs etc. Jean Sibelius, most famous Finnish composer, reached the age of 91 years
