Jennie Lee and Mayor of Camden, suffrage exhibition
Feb. 02, 1968 - On February 6 1918 the Royal Assent was given to the Representation of the people Act, extending the vote to women at the age of 30. This year on the 50th anniversary of that great step forward in women's rights the celebration organized by the National Labour Women's Advisory Committee and the National Joint Committee of working women's organizations provide an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of the early pioneers and assess progress made since then towards full equality. These are the twin theme of both an exhibition Working Women in political and public life and a national rally at Congress House, Great Russell St. London. The exhibition was opened today by Miss Jennie Lee, M.P. Minister of state at the Department of Education and Science, and Chairman of the Labour Party. The rally will be held on Wednesday.
