Jeremy Thorpe becomes Liberal Party leader, London

Jan. 01, 1967 - Presenting 91.66 per cent (including the new leader) of the Parliamentary Liberal Party.: Mr. Jo Grimond this week resigned as leader of the Liberal Party and Mr. Jeremy Thorpe was elected to succeed him. Yesterday, the Parliamentary Liberal party appeared outside the Palace of Westminster in their revised formation. In fact, this picture shows only 91.66 per cent. of the Liberal Party in the Commons. There are 12 of them there now; but their twelfth man (or residual 8.34 percent), Mr. Russell Johnston, was away at his Inverness (Scotland) constituency.
