Sep. 09, 1950 - Trapped miners all saved the most daring pit rescue ever: At 1-30 this morning all 115 surviving miners trapped in Knockshinnocgh Castle Colliery. Ayrshire, had been brought to the surgace after the most daring pit rescue in history. But 13 men are still missing, Miners believe these men were caught by the fall and perished when the subsidence took place in the mine 10pm on Thursday. Every man of the 115 to reach the surface had undergone a terrible ordeal in making his way through the gas. Special breathing apparatus-in the form of a gas mask-had to be issued.
