Aug. 08, 1970 - Double production planned for Cornisk tin mine: Cornwall's largest tin mine, South Crefty, near Redruth, is pushing ahead with a £650, 000 expansion programme to double its output. The modern headgear on its 2, 400ft deep Cook's Shaft stands amoung the ruined 18th Century engine houses in the area. The new engine house has the largest winding engine in the country and other new equipment will enable are to be handled more iefficiently. In the underground galleries, the 480 strong labour force has hope that Cornish mining is about to turn the financial corner.
