Jewish men vulnerable in 1950s East Berlin

Jan. 01, 1953 - Will they be the next ones? During the last days a regular roundup began in the Soviet Zone and East Berlin for Jews and persons of Jewish descent having any important position in public life. Hundreds of Jews have therefore already fled to West Berlin. Our picture shows prominent Jews of East Berlin. For the present they still have their positions but who knows if they are already coming tomorrow as refugees to West Berlin. From Left to Right: Dr Heinrich Loewenthal, Attorney General and member of the district administration of the league of Culture Berlin; Professor Levinstein, member of the city administration Berlin of the League of Culture and chief of the People's University Prenzlauer Berg; and Dr Schwarz (East LDP, Liberal Democratic Party), mayor of an East Berlin district
