Jo Anne Lee dressing for Queen Elizabeth I role
Mar. 31 With the help of the Wardrobe Mistress, Jo Anne Lee, pulls up the wired underskirt which is the foundation for her beautiful Queen Elizabeth dress. DRESSING A QUEEN-WHEN SHE'SIN SHE CAN'T GET OUT! Pretty 22 year old Jo Anne Lee of Durham, who is appearing in the ice pantomime Sleeping Beauty at the Wembley Pool, finds she has to get to the Stadium earlier than her colleagues, reason is it takes her longer to dress. Jo Anne takes the part of Queen Elizabeth I in the great Elizabethan Age Finale of the Show. She wears a magnificient gown made from 25 yarrds of gold satin, with a huge ruff at the neck over a wired underskirt. The gown is an exact copy of the one worn by the Queen in the famous Armada painting. Owing to the great weight of the dress Jo Anne Lee has great difficulty in keeping her balance as she glides across the ice, and she is nearly always suffering from cramp by the end of the performance. One of Jo Anne's biggest headaches is how to get out of her dressing room once she has got into the dress-she says doors must have been much wider in the first Elizabeth's day
