Joachim Ludwig, German composer, working on Rashomon

Dec. 12, 1971 - An Opera Written Specially For The Olympics 1972: Joachim Ludwig, a Munich composer, has been commissioned to write an opera which is to be performed during the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972. The 38-year-old musician is working away in order to meet his deadline. Ludwig composed his first piece for piano at the age of 11, made his debut as a pianist at the age of 12, and studied the piano, composition and conducting in Dresden, Berlin, Paris and Salzburg when one of his teachers was the celebrated conductor Herbert von Karajan. Joachim Ludwig's opera is based on the famous Japanese legend Rashomon and will bear the same title. Several concert tours in the far East inspired him to use an oriental theme, and the opera whose world premiere will take place in Augsburg on 23rd August 1972, will be staged with modern lighting effects and use flashbacks in order to remain as faithful as possible to the screenplay on which the libretto is based
