Johannes Liese, bell collector, Berlin

1971 - Johannes Liese - the Bell King from Berlin: Johannes Liese, (photo) a 60 year old composer from Berlin has been collection approximately 600 bell since quarter of a century. Among them there are big and small, antique, and modern, highly decorated and simple pieces, which he had gathered on his journeys all over Europe. As early as in his youth, he was fascinated by the chiming of the church-bells. Later on however, he became dreadfully unhappy, when he had to look at the bronze pieces being melted down in order to be converted into war material. In those days he decided to collect bells. At present Liese owns more of them than any museum in the world. Even the museum in London, which is famous for its collection cannot compete with Johannes Liese's one. And Liese keeps on collection busily
