John Cobbett with Madonna and Child, Guildford Cathedral

Feb. 02, 1961 - At work on the Madonna and Child at Guildford Cathedral: Sculptor John Cobbett will be at work for the next eight weeks or so on the Madonna and Child in the new Guildford Cathedral. The stone on which he is working is part of the first column on the North side of the nave and the sculpture will face the congregation as they enter the cathedral Mr. Cobbett is 31 lives at Lyndhurst and was recommended for the task by Sir Edward Maufe the cathedral architect as he admired his work when a student at the Royal Academy Schools.
