John Hutton engraves glass panel for Coventry Cathedral
Aug. 00, 1959 - Cathedral Wall Of Engraved Glass: A glass wall 45ft long by 70ft high will grace the new Coventry Cathedral which is rising in England to replace the bomb-blasted Cathedral of World War II. It will consist of 90 panels, each panel 8ft high, 2ft 3 ins wide, and 3/8 inch thick, Figures of 31 saints and 35 angels will be engraved on the panels. Picture shows Artist John Hutton engraves an angel on one of the panels in his London studio. he uses flex-panels and gives March 1961 as the date for the 90. He is also working on a number of large glass vases engraved with two angels. These are to be sold to help meet the cost of finishing the new Cathedral
