John Nettles and Cecile Paoli in BBC Bergerac series

May 01, 1981 - 1st May 1981 Bergerac follows in shoestring's footsteps BBC TV is hoping to repeat the enormous success of its private eye series Shoestring with its new ten-part thriller series Bergerac. Due to be screened on BBC-1 this autumn and produced by Robert Banks Stewart who made Shoestring, the new series is set on the island of Jersey. Jim Bergerac is a detective sergeant in the Bureau d'etrangers, the police department which deals with residents who were not born on the island. The title role is played by John Nettles, and Cecile Paoli, a young actress from Marseilles, plays Francine, a young girl who works for the Jersey Tourist Office. She is also a part-time portrait painter who offers a temporary room to Bergerac. Photo Shows: John Nettles as Bergerac and Cecile Paoli as Francine on location in Jersey for an episode of Bergerac
