John Profumo and wife at Royal Academy exhibition

Jun. 05, 1963 - Profumo Resigns: Mr. John Profumo the Minister for war has written to the Prime Minister resigning from the Government, the resignation has been accepted. In his letter he states that when he made a statement in the House of Commons on March 22, in which he denied that there had been any impropriety in his relationship with Christine Keeler the missing London model, this was in fact not true. He now admitted having deceived the Government, his wife and family, and his legal advisers, and was therefore resigning. Photo shows Mr. John Profumo with his wife, formerly actress Valerie Hobson, seen at the Royal Academy in 1961
