John Vorster elected Prime Minister of South Africa

Sep. 09, 1966 - John Vorster Elected South African Premier; Balthazar John Vorster, South African Justice Minister, was unanimously elected the Country's seventh Prime Minister in Cape Town today. He succeeds Dr. Vermoerd, who was assassinated a week ago. First to greet him after his address was his wife Tini, who had waited outside Parliament with wives of other Cabinet Ministers for news of the election.
