Jon Pertwee, Dr Who, with new assistant Elisabeth Sladen
Jun. 06, 1973 - New assistant for Dr Who. 25 year old Elisabeth Sladen, will be Dr Who's new assistant when Jon Pertwee returns in the new series early next year. She will play Sarah Jane Smith, a bright young journalist on a woman's magazine, who joins the Doctor in his adventures. Elisabeth has previously appeared in a number of popular television programmes including Z Cars, Doomwatch, and Coronation Street'. Work on the new Dr Who series will begin in September.
