Feb. 02, 1975 - Dr Savimbi given big welcome on arrival in Angola: Dr Jonas Malheiro Savimbi, the leader of the liberation movement UNITA (Uniao Nacional para a Independencia total de Angola), who is one of the most important movement personalities in SW Africa, was given a tremendous welcome when he arrived recently at Nova Lisboa, Angola. Angola, the largest of Portugal's African provinces, is being given its independence on November 11th this year. Dr Savimbi has just arrived from Portugal where he signed, along with other movement leaders of Angola and the Portuguese government, the agreement for independence.
