Josephine Baker, legendary dancer
1980 - 5th Anniversary of the Death of Josephine Baker: On April 12th, 1975 died Josephine Baker in Paris, France, the Black Venus, as she was called by the Louis in Missouri, being the child of a black mother and a white father. She adopted twelve children from all countries and colours, educating them in her manor-house Les Milnades in France. Her unforgetable chanson The Rainbow-Children was made for her proteges. In order to upkeep the children as well as the manor-house she was forced to earn money. Such the artist who always wanted to retreat from the stage during her last twenty years, again came back to stage. She was adored in the whole world and well-known by her revue-dances, which she presented in daring costumes. Her main sphere of action was Paris/France, where she had come to fame in 1925, as the star of the Black Birds'. Later she founded her own nightclub in the Rue Pigalle, called Chez Josephine
