This specially commissioned half-hour pop opera - the BBC's entry for the 1977 Salzburg Opera Competition - can be seen in The Lively Arts on BBC2, Sunday June 5. Orpheus, whose music has the power to entrance his listeners is here updated to the role of a busker in the London Underground. His girlfriend, Eurydica, is pursued by an amorous commuter and the story unfolds amidst the tunnels and trains, lifts and escalators of a weird and wonderful Underworld
