Julie Christie, actress, breakfast in bed, Birmingham

Jan 01, 1963 - Birmingham, England, United Kingdom - She's talented and beautiful, gay and volatile. She has rapidly become a leading film star, yet she lives in Birmingham digs, and her landlady brings her breakfast every morning. Well, who is she? JULIE CHRISTIE, who became a number-one star after playing Liz in Billy Liar, her third and most successful film. But Miss Christie enjoys a rustic living, and, as she wants to stay in rep. for a while, she finds it convenient to live near the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Life has been one mad rush for Julie. Only two years ago she was still studying at the Central School of Dramatic Art - today she is in a different play every week, out of which she spends six mornings and six afternoons rehearsing for the evening performances. Julie was born 22 years ago in India, where her father was a tea planter, and having shifted around between seven schools in India, France and England since then, has learnt to cope with anything that crops up. But she is glad to have a wow of a landlady - Mrs. DOROTHY CETTI - who is her friend and confidante. A youthful zest for living, and a Devil-may-care attitude to life combined with a mature professionalism in her work, have projected Miss Christie into the wide theatrical orbit she deserves. George Bernard Shaw once said, The tragedy of youth is that it is wasted on the young, but it's certainly not been wasted in the case of Miss Christie. Date is approximate
