Jun. 26, 1957 - Largest Radio Telescope in the World - was shown to the press yesterday for the first time.Built at Jodrell bank, Cheshire for Manchester University-at a cost of about ?650, 000 - it consists of a gigantic copper mesh bowl weighing 750 tons and suspended between two towers 180 ft.high.Funds for its construction were provided by the department of Scientific and Industrial Research and the Nuffield Foundation.The diameter of the bowl is 250 ft. and height of the aerial masts is 621/2ft.
