Professor Bohm, Austrian general music director since 1964 and showered with distinctions and honours throughout his long career, was born in Graz in 1894. He first earned his doctorate before moving into the music studio and setting off on his artistic career. In 1934 he was named the leader of the Dresden opera house and from 1942 to 1945 worked in the Vienna opera house. Ever since, he has been busy as a guest director in Salzburg and Bavaria, among other places. Also, this year Professor Bohm, who is considered to be a Strauss specialist was missing from the festivals in Salzburg. He directed one of his favorite operas Ariadne auf Naxos and made no exception on his 85th birthday
