Karl Gustav Lerche arrested for murder after 11 years

Dec. 12, 1955 - Accused of murder after 11 years; Last Thursday in Munich the trial against the former SS Oberscharfuhrer and war journalist Karl Gustav Lerche. He is accused of murdering the British military doctor Captain Brian Brownscombe who was a POW in Holland while the Germans occupied the country during 1944. During a drinking session he shot the British officer on September 24th 1944. Today he says, that he had an order from a German intelligence officer. For 8-9 years nobody found Lerche: he even worked as a waiter for the Secret British Field Police in 1945 in Berlin. Later he was denounced by his lover, who was jealous, and wrote a 19-page letter to the police, Lerche was arrested on December 1st 1945. The files now have 1000 pages and Scotland Yard is still trying to clear up the crime. Photo Shows Lerche with a policeman
