Kawabata working on mural for Art Olympics, Japan
Mr. R. Kawabata, a specialist in murals, at work on his Mountain and Morning measuring 39 feet by 8 feet. It will be shown at the final stages of the Art Olympics which go on for one month. The Artistic Japanese : Record entries for this year's Art Olympics have filled both halls of Ueno Park in Tokyo with paintings and statues - more than 30 in all. Nearly every Japanese artist and sculptor enters for the contest and hopes for the award of the gold medals. All day long, Japanese men and Women, and their children, file around the exhibits, studying them and passing their own judgements on them. The standards are remarkably high and reveal a very wide range of contemporary and classical styles and techniques
