Feb. 25, 1961 - 25-2-61 Seven MPs purchase a greyhound to back their argument A syndicate of seven MPs have purchased a 29 year old brindle pup Greyhound called Carnderry, a name which they have changed to Backbencher in order to be able to investigate the dogs from the inside. The syndicate comprises Mr. Godfrey Lagden Tory M.P. for Hornchurch; Mr. John Bidgood Tory MP for Bury and Radcliffe; Mr. Albert Roberts Labour, Normanton; Mr. Alan Hopkins Tory, Bristol N/E; Sir Harmer Nicholis, Tory, Peterborough; Mr. John Farr Tory, Harborough and Mr. Harold Neal, Labour Bolsover. The greyhound has started his career at Wimbledon by winning four of his six races. He is trained by Mr. Dennis Hannafin of Walton-on-Thames.
