King Charles I relics on show, Buckingham Palace, London
Jan. 30, 1969 - Charles l relics on show to the public at the Queen's gallery, Buckingham Palace:The shirt worn by King Charles I at his execution and his volume of Shakespeare (2nd Folio), which is annotated in his own hand, will be among five items of great historical interest and poignancy that are added to the exhibition of Van Dyck's immortal portraits of the King and his Family at the Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace. These additions will be on show to the public from 11 am today, which is the 320th anniversary of the King's execution in Whitehall. The other three items are, The lace collar that the King wore on the same occasion, the manuscript copy of Sir Thomas Herbert memoir with the letter of commendation written for him by the King, only two days before his execution, and the collection of letters written by the King, during the last months of his life, to Sir William Hopkins.
