Sep. 09, 1970 - Barricades Up In Amman: Barricades were going up in the streets of Amman Last night after King Hussein Swore in a military Government for Jordan under the treat of an army take over if he did not do so. Martial law was declared and a showdown between the Jordanian Army and the Palestine Guerillas appeared imminent. The Guerillas central committee - which has been split over methods of handling the skyjack crisis - closed its ranks and prepared for a struggle to overthrow the Fasoist military regime'. Yasser Arafat, chief of the Al Fatah Guerillas, was Proclaimed commander- in-chief of all resistance forces and a general strike was called.
