King Kong gorilla statue for Birmingham
Apr. 28, 1972 - King Kong Size Traffic Problem; Special arrangements will be made to avoid traffic disruption, when the giant 20ft high statue of a gorilla - with a 15ft arm span, is moved by trailer half-way across the country, from artists Nicholas Monro's studio in Hungerford, Berks, to Birmingham. King Kong - sculpted in fibre glass, is the artist's contribution to the center of Birmingham, where it will be erected for a trial period of six months as part of a nationwide scheme to blighted out cities.
