Aug. 08, 1957 - Signing of the Federation of Malaya agreement in Kuala Lumpur. The signing of the Federation of Malaya Agreement, which grave Malaya its independence, took place on Monday at King's House Kuala Lumpur. The agreement, which abrogated the British protectorate over the nine Malaya states, was signed on behalf of the Queen by the High Commissioner, Sir Donald MacCillivray, and by the Malay state rulers.
