Jan. 01, 1963 - King of Greece thanks British airmen for saving life of young mother. King Paul and Queen Frederika of Greece recently gave a reception at the Tatoi Royal Palace for a number of British airmen who took part in a rescue operation to save the life of a young mother. The woman, who lived on the small island of Kastellorizo was in urgent need of blood and an operation after giving birth to a child. Rough weather made the approach to the island by sea impossible to the Greek authorities flashed an SOS to Cyprus. Within minutes RAF units stationed there had sprung into action and an airlift of a limited field surgery, a doctor and medical assistants was arranged.
