Kurt Boehme, German singer, in the role of Falstaff
May 05, 1978 - First-Rate Concert-Singer Kurt Boehme 70th birthday: on May 5th, 1978 first-rate concert-singer Kurt Boehme (in our picture in the role of Falstaff in The Merry Wives of Windsor'). Born in Dresden, at the conservatoire in his home town he studied piano, violin, trumpet, tenor-horn and vocal music. In 1930 he was engaged to the National Opera Dresden by the chief-conductor-general Fritz Busch. Since 1949 Kurt Boehme is a member of the Bavarian National Opera Munich; for 14 years he also belonged to the ensemble of the National Opera in Vienna (Austria). Starring performances led the honoured singer through Europe and overseas. He took the floor at the famous Metropolitan Opera in New York, also in London, Paris, Rome, Milan, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Helsinki, Stockholm, Buenos Aires and many other towns. Also at the festivals of Bayreuth and Salzburg Kurt Boehme took part. Favourite roles he has not, - I like all roles, he says. In 1964 the artist was honoured with the Bavarian Distinguished Service Cross, 1975 with the Federal Distinguished Service Cross of the first class
