Aug. 08, 1977 - 25th Anniversary Of the Death of Kurt Schumacher: 25 years ago, on August 2nd, 1952, Dr. Kurt Schumacher died. He was the first chairman of the Social Democratic Party of West-Germany after the Second World War and a very important person in the political life in German Bundestag he became the great opponent to Konrad Adenauer. Born in Kulm, West-Prussia, Kurt Schumacher was a soldier during the First World War and lost an arm there. After the end of the war in 1918 he went into politics, was an editor of a SPD-paper and moved into the provincial diet of Wuerttemberg. In 1930 he entered the Berlin Reichstag, between 1933 and 1945 he spent most of his time in the concentration camps. Then in 1945 he started again his political engagement and was chairman of the SPD
