Jun. 27, 1960 - Famous Jewellery to be sold by auction. Diamond of 49.03 carats: The largest and finest diamond ever to be sent for auction is to be offered for sale at Christies on July 5th. It is an unmounted pear-shaped diamond of 49.03 carats and belongs to a member of foreign royal family. The sale will also include some magnificent jewels belonging to the late Adele, Countess of Cadogan.
