Jun. 22, 1966 - Largest Painting On Sale At Sotheby's One of the most important works by Henri Matisse, which is also the largest picture ever sold at Sotheby's was auctioned today in a sale of Impressionist and Modern painting and sculpture. The picture, which is 25-feet 3 ins. wide and 10-feet 10 3/4 ins high, formed of paper cuts and considered by Matisse himself to be one of his most important, is called LA Perruche et la Sirene'.
