Laszlo Szilvassy, charged with damaging a sculpture, London

Mar. 03, 1953 - Stateless person admits damaging unknown political prisoner statue at Tate Gallery.: Laszlo Szilvassy, 28 year old stateless person, of Gloucester Place, Marylebone, London, was remanded in custody today at Bow Street charged with maliciously damaging a sculpture model of The Unknown Political Prisoner valued at £1, 000, the property of the Institute of Contemporary Arts. The model, made by Mr. Reg Butler, of Hatfield, Herts, . had won first prize of £4, 500 in the International Sculpture Competition. It represented three women looking at an open cage, a combination of a gallows and a guillotine. Szilvassy is said to have admitted damaging the sculpture at the Tate Gallery on Saturday.
