Launch of Northern Star by Queen Mother

Feb. 26 The Queen Mother launches the passenger liner Northern Star at Walker on Tyne: Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, yesterday launched the new £7 million Shaw Savill liner Northern Star, 22, 000 tons at Walker-on-Tyne yesterday. The Northern Star makes her maiden voyage on July 10 next year, joining her sister ship the Southern Cross in a round-the-world service for passengers only. Because of a recent foot injury the Queen Mother was pushed in a wheel-chair past cheering crowds to the launching platform in the shipyard.
