Launch pickets Queen Mary, Long Beach, California, USA
Mar. 03, 1968 - Queen Mary Strike Bound at Long Beach. None of the Queen Mary's countless Atlantic crossings has been more storm tossed than the 1 1/2 mile trip she is trying to make from her present mooring at Long Beach to a nearby drydock. Various maritime unions dispute the right to land based unions to work aboard the Queen Mary during her conversion to a maritime museum and convention centre. When she does finally reach drydock the famous 80, 000 ton vessel will be laid up for six weeks having three of her four screws removed and her keel sand blasted.
